That week in 2021 when the internet in my city just... stopped talking about the factory fire

It was a Tuesday. A huge chemical storage fire at the old plant on the south side sent this toxic black cloud over half the neighborhood. Local news covered it for maybe a day. Then, nothing. Poof. My social feeds went back to cat videos and food pics. I had friends who lived right there, coughing for a week, and you couldn't find a single update. Searches for the factory name just returned old pages about its history. It felt like we all collectively agreed to forget it happened. Makes you wonder what else just gets memory-holed like that, you know? Anyone else have a local story that just vanished from the public record?

Was it really that big a deal though? Fires happen. The news moves on fast. Maybe the air cleared up quick and there was nothing left to report. People probably just got bored and went back to normal stuff.

Tell that to the people who lost everything.
