The library in Taipei had a whole shelf I could not find online, and it took me 4 months to get why
Last fall I was looking for coverage of the 1996 Taiwan Strait stuff, and the English web gave me maybe 3 paragraphs total. But the Taipei public library had a binder on the second floor with 40 plus pages cut from local papers, and the difference was wild. A librarian named Ms. Chen told me it never went online because the office that scanned old archives shut down in 2011 and the money ran out. Now I always check the library before I trust what shows up in search. Anyone else found stuff that only lives in a physical binder?
Sounds nice but one binder from one library is just one pile of papers, and you have no way to know what got left out. The English web being thin on that topic does not prove the binder is the full story, it just means you found a different set of gaps. Trusting the paper because it is paper is the same mistake as trusting the screen because it is the screen.
