The old shortwave schedules felt like news freedom, now it's all algorithm feeds

Back in 2009 I used to dial through Radio Havana and BBC relays late at night, catching stories that never made it to US papers. You had to know the frequencies, the time windows, maybe 20 minutes of static for one clear broadcast. Compare that to now, where I can pull up a blocked article from Venezuela in seconds, but I also get buried under 50 reposts of the same clip. That deliberate hunting made me value what I read, does anyone else miss the effort part of finding hidden news?

Watching the whole world turn into a vending machine is the same deal. You used to have to walk to the store to get a paper, now you just swipe and get a headline that someone already chewed up for you. Everything gets easier to find but somehow feels more empty, like the search was half the point and now we just get handed the leftovers. It's not just news, it's anything you actually want, the wanting used to be part of having it.
