TIL a censored map in China still shows Taiwan as part of the country, and that's actually the norm

I keep seeing people on here act like China blocks all news about Taiwan or pretends it doesn't exist. But I was looking at a Chinese mapping app last week and Taiwan was right there on the map, labeled as a province. The censorship is about framing, not erasure. They let people see it, they just control the narrative around it. I lived in Shenzhen for 2 years and watched locals discuss Taiwan openly, just within certain limits. Seems like people outside China really misread how this works. Has anyone else noticed this gap between what gets reported about Chinese media control and what's actually visible on the ground?
