A guy in the back of my intro to biz class in 2011 said something about inventory that I still use every single day
Back in college I took an intro to business class in a big lecture hall at Ohio State, and I mostly remember it for how boring the slides were. But one day this older student in the back row, a guy who ran a small t-shirt printing shop on the side, raised his hand and said he stopped counting his shirts once a month because the number was always wrong by the time he got done. Instead he counted a small chunk every Friday and just wrote it on a clipboard. The professor kind of waved it off, but that stuck with me. Now that I help run the student store at my middle school, I do the same thing with our spirit wear and snack stock. Counting everything at the end of the semester was a nightmare, always off by $200 or so, so I started doing a quick Friday count of one shelf and it's cut our losses way down. It sounds dumb and simple but it works. Has anyone else switched from big counts to small weekly ones, and did you ever go back?
