Can we talk about paying for a consultant to fix our inventory mess?

We dropped $15,000 on a supply chain consultant to sort out our warehouse, and honestly, it just made things worse... they gave us a fancy plan that took months to set up and our shipping times actually got slower. Has anyone else had a consultant totally miss the mark on a basic ops problem?

Happens all the time. They sell you a perfect system that ignores how your actual warehouse works on a Tuesday. Those plans look great in a report but fail in real life. You paid for theory, not a fix. Sounds like they never got their hands dirty in your space.

$40,000 for a "distribution center optimization" report and the lead consultant had never stepped foot inside a working warehouse. They based everything on theoretical throughput numbers without accounting for the 20 year old forklift that stalls in bay 7 or that half your bins are barcode-free. The real fix would have been walking the floor for three days and talking to the guys who actually move the boxes.

Classic move, paying for a binder full of dreams that only works in a perfect world. They probably charged you extra for the part where they ignore all the weird, real stuff that happens on your floor. My favorite is when the plan needs another consultant just to explain why it broke. You bought a map to a city that doesn't exist.
