Can we talk about the 15 minute supply closet rule that saved our crew 6 hours a week
We kept losing time hunting for fittings and tape because the truck looked like a tornado hit it, so I started having whoever finishes first spend 15 minutes putting everything back in the same spot. That one change got our job setup from 40 minutes down to about 12, and the guys actually stopped complaining by week two. Has anyone else tried a fixed reset time instead of just yelling at people to clean up?
Six hours a week sounds great on paper but you're paying for it somewhere else. Those 15 minutes are coming off the end of the day when guys are beat, so now you're burning OT or losing the last push before cleanup. I worked a crew in Tulsa that tried the same thing and by week three the reset turned into 25 minutes of standing around and bitching. The real fix is buying a second set of the fittings you lose most, not turning grown men into janitors.
