Had to choose between two payroll processors last month
Went with the cheaper option at $29 a month instead of the $80 one. Three weeks later they messed up overtime calculations for 4 of my employees and it took me 6 hours to fix on a Saturday. Has anyone else had a cheap payroll service blow up on them?

You get what you pay for with payroll. That $29 option probably cut corners on quality control. Time is money, and 6 hours of your weekend is way more than the $50 you saved.

Three weeks into that $29 service and I caught them double-counting a shift differential for my night crew. Took me a whole Sunday to re-run checks and file corrected payroll taxes. Learned the hard way that most of these cheap processors outsource their compliance work to people who don't know state labor laws. Now I pay $65 a month for a service that guarantees a live CPA reviews everything before payroll runs. That extra $36 a month is cheaper than another weekend of damage control.
