My boss said 'we can't afford to map our processes' and I think that's a fast track to failure
Heard this in a budget meeting yesterday. We're a 12-person team in Charlotte, and the owner shut down my idea for a simple process audit. His exact words were 'that's consultant fluff, we need to focus on sales.' But our sales team wastes at least 5 hours a week chasing down info from production because nobody wrote down the handoff steps. How do you convince leadership that fixing the engine is more important than just pushing the gas pedal harder? Anyone had a win with a small, cheap process fix that saved big time?

Mapping processes isn't about consultants, it's about fixing that five hour search problem. A simple flowchart on a whiteboard could save those hours by next week.

That "five hour search problem" hits way too close to home. I once spent a whole afternoon looking for a file I'd saved with a brilliant name like "draft_final_v2_new_REAL.pdf." @cameron684, my search history is just a sad trail of me trying different spellings for the same report. A basic map showing where things actually live, not where we pretend they live, would have saved me from that mess. My desk whiteboard is currently just doodles, but maybe it's time for a useful flowchart instead.
