Our lunch rush died last month and the reason was 4 minutes
I started timing our checkout process at my sub shop in Akron and found out we were averaging 4 minutes 20 seconds per customer during noon, which sounds fine until you realize the sandwich line takes 90 seconds. The extra time was all people staring at a card reader that takes 8 seconds to approve a $9 order. Anyone else track their register speed or am I the only one this bored?
Did you ever watch someone pay and just KNOW the machine is costing you sales? My buddy runs a burrito place in Columbus and he clocked his whole line one week. Orders took about 2 minutes to make but the card reader added almost 2 more because people would stand there waiting for the screen to change, then pull their card out too early, then have to start over. He said a $10 burrito order sometimes took 90 seconds of pure waiting on the machine. He called his card company and they blamed his internet, so he switched to a faster terminal and the noon rush came back within a month. Four minutes is not fine when the food is ready in 90 seconds, that gap is where your customers walk out.
