3 months to actually work right" is the standard software promise. I read somewhere that you should always triple the vendor's timeline.

Tbh "demo it live" is smart because it's like checking if a car actually starts instead of just looking at the pictures. So many things look good on paper but fall apart when you poke at them in real life, whether it's software or a new coffee maker or whatever. Always worth seeing the actual thing work before you commit, that's just basic life sense.
