PSA: I picked local warehousing over Amazon FBA and it saved me $3k in fees so far

Honestly, I was stuck between using Amazon FBA or renting a small warehouse space near my town in Ohio for my online store. After 6 months of selling through FBA, the storage fees were eating up like 15% of my profit each month. So I made the switch to a local 500 square foot unit for $450 a month. Tbh it was scary at first because I had to handle all the shipping myself, but I hired a high school kid part time for $12 an hour to pack orders. Now my margins are way better and I don't get hit with those random holiday surcharges anymore. Has anyone else here dropped FBA for self fulfillment and seen a big difference in their bottom line?

If UPS hits me with a surprise surcharge, I'll just switch to FedEx.
