The day our inventory system just gave up mid count

I was in the warehouse at 2am doing our quarterly inventory count when the barcode scanner just started beeping error codes randomly every third scan. Turns out the whole thing was linked to a dying server in the break room that nobody noticed because the fan was still running. Has anyone else had a critical system just quietly fail like that without any obvious warning signs?

Every third scan" is exactly the kind of weird half-fail that would make me think the scanner was haunted before I checked the server. I once had a label printer that only jammed when I was already late for a meeting, which feels like the same energy. The fan tricking everyone is honestly the most relatable part, quiet failures are the sneakiest.
