The one client who thought my invoices were optional
Had a guy last month who ran a landscaping business, owed me $1,200 for a transmission rebuild on his work truck. I called him after 60 days and he said he didn't think the invoice was "a real bill" because I hand wrote it on a notepad. Told me to send a proper one with a letterhead. I asked him if he pays his mortgage with crayon drawings too. Have you ever had someone question your billing method instead of just paying what they owe?

Is it really that deep though? I mean yeah the guy was being a tool about the hand written invoice but acting like he's getting away with a major crime seems extra. You got paid eventually right? Half the time people just need a nudge or a slightly threatening voice mail before they cave. Honestly the crayon drawing line is pretty funny, but if I'm being real I'd just email a PDF of the same exact thing typed up to shut him up and move on. Not everything has to be a standoff, you know?

Is it really worth burning a bridge over a hand written invoice though? The guy paid eventually, so it sounds like more of a hassle than a real disaster on his end. If I learned anything from dealing with customers, sometimes you just gotta pick your battles and send the typed up version to keep things moving.
