Thought the 4pm Friday order cutoff was just a scare tactic until I tested it in Columbus
Moved our cutoff from 5pm to 4pm last month and our late shipments dropped from about 12 a week to 3, which saved us roughly $400 in rushed freight. Anybody else had a small ops tweak pay off way more than expected?
Man, I have to push back on this one because a 4pm cutoff is just a bandaid that hides the real problem. All you did was buy yourself an hour of buffer, which means your process still can't handle orders that come in late in the day, you just moved the pain earlier. And that $400 a week sounds nice until you realize you're probably turning away or delaying orders from customers who used to get same day service, which could cost you way more in lost business down the road. Plus those 3 late shipments a week didn't vanish, you just shuffled the chaos around instead of fixing why shipments go out late in the first place. I get that small tweaks feel good, but stuff like this usually means the cutoff was never the issue, the picking and packing schedule was. What happens when you get a big order at 3:45 on a Friday and now it sits all weekend?
