Why does nobody warn you about the Tuesday after a long weekend in ops

We run a small 12 person shop and the Tuesday after Memorial Day wrecked us: two vendor invoices hit at once, a shipment showed up a day early, and our one forklift guy called in sick. Took us till 6pm just to catch up on stuff that normally takes an hour. Does anyone else plan staffing around the day after holidays, or is that just something we missed?

Been there. We started blocking the calendar for the day after any long weekend, keeping one extra body on hand and pushing vendor deliveries to Wednesday when we can.
