A chat with my wife's grandpa about his old shop totally flipped how I see my own work
He was a butcher for 40 years in a small town in Ohio. He said his biggest thing was knowing every single customer's name and what cut they liked best. I've been so focused on speed and new gear, but he said 'the saw doesn't make the butcher, the handshake does.' It hit me that I barely know my regulars. Anyone else feel like we lost some of that personal touch?

Remember when service meant more than just speed. That old butcher had it right, knowing people was his real tool. We traded that for shiny new things and lost something good.

Wait... forty years in the same shop? That's just wild to me. Can't even picture staying at one job long enough to know whole families like that.
