Am I the only one who switched to breaking down whole chickens after a guy in Fort Worth showed me his yield sheet?
I used to buy pre-cut parts because I figured the savings on whole birds was a myth, but after watching him get 8 clean pieces plus a carcass for stock out of a $6 bird at his counter in Fort Worth, I ran the numbers on my own case and realized I was leaving about $40 a week on the table.
Isn't it funny how we stop questioning a habit once it feels normal? I did the same thing with coffee for years, buying pods without ever adding up what the beans cost, and when I finally checked it was something like $600 a year for worse coffee. Cutting up a chicken is the same kind of blind spot, because the store makes pre-cut parts so easy that you never stop to do the math. Once you see the real number, it's hard to go back.
