Found an old slaughter method in a 1940s butcher manual...

I was digging through a stack of old books at a flea market last weekend and came across a 1947 manual on beef slaughter. It had a technique for stunning cattle with a specific mallet strike point that supposedly dropped them instantly with less bruising than modern captive bolts... I tried to look it up online later and couldn't find any modern butchers talking about it. Has anyone else seen old school methods that actually work better than what we use today?

Is it really that serious though... A different way to knock out a cow that nobody's used in 80 years probably got replaced for a reason.

Yeah I read somewhere it was banned because of brain damage risks. Guess there's a reason old methods stay old.
