That week the power went out and we had to move a whole beef quarter by hand
The freezer at the old shop on 5th Street died on a Tuesday in July. We had to haul everything to the walk-in next door before it warmed up, just me and two guys carrying primal cuts in 90 degree heat. Anyone ever have a cooler fail during a heat wave?

Didn't have to move a whole cow but my home fridge died last August and I carried everything to a neighbor's garage freezer at 2am looking like a hot mess. Let me tell you, carrying a half thawed turkey with no shoes on is a special kind of life choice you can't take back. You guys at least had a walk in next door, I was praying my neighbor didn't look out the window and call the cops on the sweaty guy with raw meat. Honestly though, I'd rather lift beef in July than deal with insurance paperwork for a total loss any day of the week.

I mean, moving a beef quarter by hand in that heat sounds rough, but honestly a walk-in next door is pretty lucky. I had a cooler die once and the nearest backup was a 20 minute drive away. That 90 degree part is what gets me, like everything just turns to soup in minutes. Maybe it's just me but I'd take carrying cuts over a total loss any day.

A 20 minute drive for a backup cooler? That's just asking for trouble.
