A mill shop owner in Greensboro showed me his offcut bin and it changed how I price jobs
Stopped by a shop in Greensboro to pick up some hard maple and the owner pointed at a bin near the planer. He keeps every cut over 12 inches and sorts them by species. A cabinet shop down the road buys those cutoffs from him for $40 a bin and uses them for face frames. He says he pulls about $300 a month off stuff most shops throw in the dumpster. I went home and dug through my own pile of scrap and filled a whole trash can with pieces I could have used. Been cutting my face frame stock from cutoffs first now and I have not bought new poplar in 6 weeks. Does anyone else sell their offcuts or am I late to something everyone already does?
