Caught a huge glue line issue on a maple panel last Tuesday

I was in the middle of assembling a set of shaker doors for a kitchen remodel in a client's house in Portland when I noticed a nasty glue line showing through on a maple panel. The thing is I had already clamped everything up and walked away for lunch. Came back and saw this white streak right where the joint was, stood out like crazy against the wood. I had to unclamp the whole thing, scrape off the dried glue where I could, and re-sand that panel down by about 1/16th of an inch to get it clean. Took me an extra 2 hours to re-joint and re-clamp it all. Now I always do a quick wipe with a damp rag right after clamping to catch any squeeze out before it sets. Has anyone else had a glue line pop up on maple like that? What do you do to avoid it?

Man, that's the worst. Had the exact same thing happen on a cherry table top last year, now I keep a spray bottle of water and a plastic scraper right next to my clamps at all times.

Did you wet the paper towel or just spray the surface directly before scraping?
