My neighbor's comment about my drawer boxes got me thinking
I was showing off a new kitchen I built in my garage, and my neighbor, who used to work in a high-end shop, pointed at the drawer boxes. He said, 'You know, a 1/2 inch ply bottom in a 3/4 inch dado is just asking for trouble in a year.' I always did it that way because it was fast. Now I'm rethinking my whole method for client work. Has anyone else had a simple tip make them change a basic step?

It's funny how a single offhand comment from someone who knows their stuff can unravel years of habit. Makes you wonder what other shortcuts we're all taking that'll bite us later.

But honestly how bad could it really get? A little shortcut might not be perfect but it probably won't cause a total disaster. People tend to overthink these small things.

That "asking for trouble in a year" line is pretty specific. What kind of trouble was he picturing, like the bottom sagging or the joint just coming loose?
