My old boss told me to never use pocket holes for face frames

He said they would always shift and look bad over time, so I spent years doing mortise and tenon on everything. Then about three years ago I tried pocket holes with glue on a small built-in, just to see. That thing is still rock solid with no gaps. I think maybe the old glues and screws weren't as good. Anyone else have an old rule they finally broke with good results?

Sounds like a lot of old rules just need a fresh look.

Sometimes those old rules are still around for a good reason, though.
