My old boss told me to never use pocket holes for face frames

He said they would always shift and look bad over time, so I spent years doing mortise and tenon on everything. Then about three years ago I tried pocket holes with glue on a small built-in, just to see. That thing is still rock solid with no gaps. I think maybe the old glues and screws weren't as good. Anyone else have an old rule they finally broke with good results?

Sounds like a lot of old rules just need a fresh look.

Sometimes those old rules are still around for a good reason, though.

Gotta disagree with you there. Take traffic laws for example, speed limits were set for Model T Fords with bad brakes and no seatbelts, but we drive totally different cars now. Some of those old rules just don't make sense anymore and keep us stuck in the past.
