Old timer at the shop talked me out of soft-close hinges

Been using soft-close for years, but a retired guy named Hank said the hydraulic pistons wear out in rentals and leave doors sagging. He had me try standard euro hinges with a tension catch on a test cabinet last week, and honestly the snap feels more solid and saves me $4 per hinge. Has anyone else gone back to basic hardware for high traffic kitchens?

Geez, that brings back a memory. My buddy Dave redid his flip kitchen with those fancy soft-close hinges, and by the third tenant the doors were all hanging crooked. He had to go back and swap every single one out after about two years, total headache. The cheap standard ones with the little clip catch have been fine in his other units for over a decade now.
