Saw a guy in Nashville build a whole face frame with no clamps and it stuck with me
I was at a small cabinet shop in Nashville 3 weeks ago picking up some maple ply and the owner was building a face frame using nothing but a pin nailer and some tape trick he picked up from an old timer. He said he stopped buying clamps years ago and just uses blue tape as a hinge to fold joints together, and the frames came out dead square every time. Has anyone here tried that tape fold method on bigger frames, or does it fall apart once you get past 30 inches?
Man, tape folding is fine for tiny stuff but once you hit 30 plus inches that seam is gonna creep and bow on you. I get the appeal but ditching clamps entirely sounds like a good way to learn a hard lesson.
