Talked to a retired cabinetmaker yesterday who said something that stuck with me

Met this older guy named Frank at the lumber yard in Austin. He said all these new CNC machines and pre-made box systems take the soul out of cabinets, but he also said young guys like me should learn to use them because customers dont want to pay for hand work anymore. It hit me different cause hes been doing this since 1973 and still uses his original Stanley plane on custom jobs. Has anyone else felt like the old skills are fading but still worth keeping up?

That thing about the "soul" leaving cabinets really hit home with me. I started mixing hand cut dovetails with CNC joinery a few years ago and it saved my sanity plus my wallet. The old skills are worth keeping but you gotta find a balance that pays the bills.

Used to think CNC was cheating, Frank changed my mind.
