That Friday I had to rebuild the same drawer face three times

Last month I spent a whole Friday on one simple drawer front, and it still came out wrong. First pass I used the wrong hinge offset from the old cabinet, sat it proud by a quarter inch. Second pass I matched the offset but the grain ran the wrong way against the door next to it, looked terrible in morning light. Third pass I got the fit and grain right, then my finish gun spit a clog and left a divot in the top coat. I had to sand it down and respray, and by then it was 6:30 and my helper had already left. Has anyone else had a small job that just fights you for eight hours straight?
