That week where everything went right in the shop

Last Tuesday I had a job installing some custom shelves for a kitchen in a old house near downtown. The walls were so crooked I figured I'd be shimming for hours. But somehow my laser level and a few test cuts lined up perfect on the first try, no filler needed. Then on Thursday a regular walked in and paid me $450 cash for a spice rack I built two months ago that he forgot to pick up. Has anyone else had a week where the job just flows and you feel like you can't mess up?

Well, that takes me back some years. I had a similar thing happen once with a deck repair job in the middle of August, sweltered through framing that refused to square up no matter what I did. Then a friend of the homeowner stopped by and asked if I could take a look at his antique dresser the next day, handed me a fifty just for showing up and giving an honest opinion. It's funny how those weeks where everything clicks remind you why we put up with the bad ones. Makes you feel like maybe you're still good at this after all.

Honestly, that bit about "those weeks where everything clicks" really hit me. I had a similar thing a few summers ago, I was helping a buddy patch up his porch and we were both cursing the heat and this one warped board that just would not sit right. Then his neighbor walked over and asked if I could look at her sagging mailbox post the next day, and she paid me with a tray of brownies and twenty bucks. It wasn't the money, it was that little nod like "hey, you're the person to call." @olivers28, it's wild how those small moments of being seen for your craft can wipe out a whole week of frustration.
