A lead tech in Charlotte told me my staples were too deep and it fixed my drop lines
Last month a lead tech named Ray rode with me in Charlotte and pointed out I was burying staples on my drop lines along the siding. He said anything deeper than flush pinches the cable and causes return loss down the road, and he showed me two callbacks from 6 months ago that traced back to it. So now I hold the staple gun at a slight angle and check each one with a fingernail, and my signal numbers have been cleaner on every job since. Does anyone else staple loose on purpose, or do you all go flush and call it good?
Anything deeper than flush pinches the cable" is the kind of thing you nod at and then ignore until you're the one eating the callback six months later. Ray saved you a headache, because chasing return loss on a drop that tested fine in the summer is nobody's idea of a good Tuesday. I keep mine snug enough to hold but not crushing, and a fingernail check takes two seconds. The guys who bury them flush just haven't met their Ray yet.
