Finally realized I was stripping coax wrong after a senior guy watched me for 30 seconds
He pointed out I was nicking the braid on every pull because I was holding the tool at the wrong angle, and now I fix my cuts before crimping every time - has anyone else had an old habit that took someone literally just looking at you to catch?

The 45 degree angle thing took me like three years to figure out on my own. I had a buddy who did cable installs back in the day tell me to hold the stripper at a slight tilt rather than straight on, and it was like a lightbulb went off for me. I mean, I used to go through braid repairs constantly before that, and now I almost never get a nick unless I'm rushing. Idk why those little details never show up in the YouTube tutorials but they make all the difference.

The 45 degree tilt thing was a game changer for me too, but what really helped was slowing down. I used to rip through stripping like I was in a race and ended up with so many bad cuts. Then I watched a guy who worked for Verizon take his time and it clicked. Now I take an extra few seconds on each strip and I barely ever mess up the braid anymore. Funny how the simple stuff slips by until someone shows you.
