I used to think those Klein Tools cable toner kits were just for show
For years, I'd just use my basic tester and guesswork in attics, which was a pain. Then a guy I work with in Denver made me try his Klein VDV512-820 on a tricky four-pair job, and it found the exact break behind a wall in under two minutes. I was wrong, it's a real time-saver. Anyone have a different brand they swear by for toning out lines?

Tricky four-pair job" is where you really see the value. I mean, once you stop fighting with a basic tester on something like that, you just won't go back. It's one of those tools that pays for itself fast.

So what tester did you end up getting for that?

Murphy said a four-pair job? That can't be right. Four-pair is for data, not regular low-voltage work. Maybe he meant four-conductor? A basic tester should handle that just fine. Getting a fancy unit for something that simple seems like overkill to me.
