Old timer told me to always sweep the drop ceiling before cutting into it, called me lazy when I skipped it once.

Pulled down a ceiling tile yesterday and found an inch of old drywall dust and mouse droppings that blew everywhere when I drilled in, so who here actually bothers with that cleanup step and who thinks it is a waste of time?

Holy cow, an inch of that stuff sitting up there? I'd be pissed too, that's a whole different level of disgusting. You really gotta respect the old timers on stuff like this, they've seen some nightmare scenarios we haven't even thought of. I sweep every time now after getting a face full of insulation dust, not worth the cleanup.

Saw a video the other day where a guy found a dead raccoon under three inches of old fiberglass, been up there for years apparently. Reading what you wrote, @victor219, that face full of dust thing really hit home. I had a buddy who didn't wear a mask for a quick attic job and ended up coughing up pink stuff for a week. Sweeping every time sounds like the only smart move honestly.

Honestly though, is it really that bad? @the_jenny, your buddy probably had something going on before that attic job. Pink stuff sounds like an infection, not dust. People freak out over fiberglass but it's just itchy, not toxic. Been in attics without a mask plenty of times. Just wash your clothes separate and take a cold shower after. Hot water opens your pores and makes it worse. Never had a problem.
