Unpopular opinion: that $180 fiber splicer kit off Amazon cost me way more than it saved
Bought a cheap splicer and cleaver combo from a no name seller back in March because the guys on here kept saying you don't need to drop big money on a Fujikura for residential work. Burned through 14 splice protectors in one afternoon in Mesa because the arc settings drifted and the cleaver left jagged ends, then lost a full day redoing a 12 drop apartment job. If you're doing any volume at all, just rent or buy a real machine, has anyone else gotten burned trying to go cheap on splicing gear?
