Why I skip pre-made cables for custom cuts now

Lots of folks think pre-made cables are the fastest way to finish a job. I make my own lengths on site, and it cuts down on mess and trips back to the truck. Having a small workbench in my van for this has been a game changer.

Consider the waste you're not sending to the landfill. Every pre-made cable comes in plastic wrap and a box, and the leftovers often just get tossed. Cutting your own means you buy one big spool with less packaging overall and use almost every inch. It feels better knowing you're not adding to the job site trash pile.

Finally someone who gets it. That mess of extra cable from pre-made lengths is a real pain to deal with. Keeping a spool and some ends in the van just makes sense once you try it. Saves a ton of time you would have spent untangling or going back for a different size.

Wait, you guys were just throwing away the extra cable from the pre-made ones? @lindaj11 is right, that's a huge mess. I always ended up with a giant ball of useless short pieces in the back of my van. Buying the spool means I actually use the stuff I paid for.
