Debate: Should you bother cleaning or just replace a jammed shutter on an old Spotmatic?

I was over at a buddy's shop in Portland last week and we got into it about this. He says it's always worth cleaning a stuck shutter because you learn the mechanism and save the original parts. But I've had two Spotmatics where I spent hours cleaning only for the curtains to still snag or the speeds to be way off. Now I'm leaning toward just swapping in a whole used shutter assembly for $40 if I can find one. What do you all do when you run into a jammed shutter on these old cameras?

Ngl I kind of disagree with your buddy. I've cleaned three Spotmatic shutters and two of them still had issues after. At that point you're just burning time you could spend shooting.

Wound up using a hairdryer on mine and somehow it worked.
