Fixed a jammed M42 aperture ring with a lighter, no joke
Picked up a beat-up Pentax screw mount lens at a swap meet in Portland, and the aperture blades were stuck shut from old grease. I read somewhere that heat can loosen that gunk, so I carefully passed a butane lighter flame over the ring for maybe 5 seconds, let it cool, then worked the blades with a toothpick. Thing opened right up and now moves smooth as butter. I know it sounds sketchy, but the risk was low on a $30 lens I was ready to scrap. Anyone else tried heat on sticky mechanisms, or do you all stick to solvents only?
