Found my grandpa's old lens spanner in a coffee can and it still beats my new one
Cleaning out my grandpa's garage in Boise last month, I found his old lens spanner set buried in a Folgers can, wrapped in an oily rag. I laughed at first, then used it on a sticky 50mm front ring that my fancy adjustable spanner kept slipping on, and it bit down perfect on the first try. He repaired cameras out of that same garage from 1968 to 1992, and the tips are still sharp with zero play in the pivot. My $40 modern one has already stripped two slots this year. Feels like the old tools were made to be repaired too, which I guess was the whole point back then. Anyone else still using hand me down tools from the film days, or am I just being sappy about a wrench?
