I finally stopped soaking stuck filter rings in acetone
Used to always let them sit overnight in a cup of acetone. Worked okay but took forever. Last month at a camera swap in Portland, an old timer showed me he just uses a heat gun for 30 seconds and taps the ring with a brass punch. Tried it on a stubborn 52mm UV filter and it spun right off. Anyone else ditch the chemical soak for heat?.

Heat gun on an old metal lens and watch it laugh off.

Oh boy, here we go with the heat versus chemicals debate. I can already see it now, someone's going to try this with a cheap plastic lens and end up with a melted puddle of regret.
