Old shop manual said use lighter fluid for sticky aperture blades, I called him crazy. He was right.

A retired repair guy in Portland told me to try lighter fluid on a set of stuck aperture blades on a 1980s Chinon. I figured he was stuck in the past, so I used my usual naphtha bath and it just smeared the old grease around. After three more cleanings with the same result, I grabbed a can of Zippo fluid from the gas station and it freed them up in under ten minutes. Have any of you old timers got a weird solvent trick that actually works better than the modern stuff?
