Rant: The shutter curtain repair I botched because of a mislabeled spring
I spent a solid 4 hours last Tuesday on this old Canon FTb that came in with a dragging shutter curtain. The owner said it just started acting up, so I figured it was a simple clean and lube job. Turns out the return spring was the wrong tension, and the parts bag from my supplier had the label flipped. I put it all back together, tested it at 1/1000, and the curtain literally bounced back halfway. I had to tear it down again, and I discovered the spring was for the rewind mechanism, not the shutter. My bench looks like a bomb went off, and I still owe the customer a call. Has anyone else gotten burned by mislabeled springs from online parts dealers, or do you just test everything before assembly now?
