Shoutout to folks restoring old film bodies: the winding gears strip out real easy

You might think they're solid but one wrong turn and it's toast.

My 1982 Minolta X-700. Winding gear gave up on life after one wrong twist. Sounded like stepping on dry pasta. Now it's a decorative shelf piece. These things are built like fine china. You need surgeon hands to not wreck them.

The winding gear on the X-700 is a common fail point, I've seen it a lot. I mean, I fixed mine by pulling a gear from a broken camera I found online. It's not too hard if you have small tools and patience, idk. Maybe it's just me, but I followed a guide from a Minolta fan site that helped. You could try that before it becomes a shelf piece. Still, it's a bit like surgery, so go slow.
