Warning: The spring in a shutter mechanism just launched across my shop
I found it in my coffee cup, no joke.

Might have to correct the physics here a little (no offense). Springs don't really launch themselves. That energy gets stored when you wind or compress the thing. You just happened to be the unlucky person holding it when it finally let go. It's more like a controlled explosion waiting to happen, really. Finding it in your coffee is the universe's weird way of proving the point.

Well, thanks for the science lesson, Captain Obvious. The universe sure has a petty way of making its point, using my morning coffee as a teaching tool. Guess I'll just blame cosmic forces next time I'm picking springs out of my mug.

Honestly, I always figured stuff just broke randomly. But Pat's right. It's all stored energy. Like a mousetrap set and ready. Or a twisted rubber band. You're not there for the winding, just the snap. Makes you look at every little spring in a junk drawer differently. They're all just waiting.
