I finally gave those little backpacking pillows a real shot

I always thought they were a waste of space and just used a stuff sack with clothes. Last month, I got a Sea to Summit Aeros as a gift and figured I'd try it for a three night trip. I was shocked that I slept through the night the first time, which never happens. It's not like a bed, but it kept my head still and my neck didn't hurt in the morning. I'm a convert now, but I'm curious if the foam ones are any better for side sleepers like me.

You said it kept your head still, that's the key. Foam ones can be too stiff and push your neck out of line.

Oh man, @beth_hart68, that is so true. My buddy switched to a foam one last season and complained for weeks about a stiff neck, said it felt like his head was getting shoved forward. He went back to his old trusty one and the difference was crazy, no more pain. It really shows how the wrong support can mess up your whole alignment. He was about ready to quit before he figured it out.
