I finally stopped buying into the $300 tent hype after a rainy weekend
Overheard a guy at REI saying 'you need at least a 4-season tent for any rain' and had to laugh, my $80 Coleman has held up through 3 straight days of downpours in Oregon without a leak. Anyone else think the gear industry is just upselling us on features we don't actually need?

Oh man, that rainy weekend really brings out the reality check doesn't it? My old Target special survived a week in the Adirondacks where water was literally pooling under the tent floor, and it was bone dry inside. The industry absolutely pushes these crazy expensive options when a hundred dollar tent can handle a solid downpour just fine.
