I swore by my old canvas tent until a storm on Lake Superior last August.
My 15-year-old tent, which I thought was solid, leaked so bad at Pictured Rocks that I had to sleep in my car, and now I'm finally looking at modern waterproof fabrics, so what's a good 3-season tent that can handle real rain?

Remember my buddy's tent that turned into a bathtub in the Olympics?

That tent story is legendary. The real tragedy was the gear inside. His sleeping bag became a waterlogged sponge, and a brand new pair of boots grew actual mold overnight. The whole campsite smelled like a wet dog for a week. It basically turned a hiking trip into a survival exercise.

The boots growing actual mold overnight is what gets me, @skyler_mitchell. I've seen wet gear before but that's a whole other level of moisture. Must have been a nightmare trying to get that smell out of everything, even after they got home. That trip sounds like it went from a nice hike to a disaster movie real quick.
