Just read that sleeping bag loft loses 50% of its warmth after just 3 years of use
I found that stat on a gear forum rabbit hole last night, and now I'm side-eyeing my old 30-degree bag that's probably more like a 50-degree bag now. Has anyone actually tested their bag's warmth after a few seasons, or am I overthinking this?

...and honestly, I think people underestimate how much washing and compressing your bag speeds up that loft loss too. I've got a cheap synthetic bag that's probably 8 years old now, and I can tell you it's nowhere near as warm as when I bought it. I did a little test last winter where I camped in 40 degree weather with it, and I was shivering all night. My newer 20 degree bag kept me toasty in the same conditions. So yeah, I'd say that stat feels pretty accurate from my experience, at least with synthetic fill. Down might hold up a bit better if you take really good care of it, but even then, three years of regular use is going to take a toll on the loft for sure.
