My old tent zipper gave out in a downpour near Lake Tahoe.

I was stuck inside for six hours listening to the rain come through the gap, which completely soaked my sleeping bag. Now I only buy tents with YKK zippers and check the stitching before any trip. What's the one piece of gear you won't compromise on anymore?

Man that sounds miserable, six hours is a long time to just sit there getting wet. I had a cheap sleeping bag fail on me once and spent a shivering night, never again. Now I check the stitching and fabric on everything before it goes in my pack. Good zippers are a total game changer for staying dry.
