Realized my tent pegs were useless after that storm last night
Had 4 stakes bend on me in 40mph wind at Big Sur and a camper next to me handed me a set of groundhogs. Now I get why everyone swears by those things, anyone else cheap out on stakes for way too long?

Groundhogs are the only way to go. Cheap stakes are just tent anchors in disguise.

Those 9 inch galvanized groundhogs are solid for sure, but I've had a few of the cheaper knockoff ones bend on me in rocky soil. You gotta watch the angle you drive them in at, otherwise they just fold right over. Also the aluminum ones are way lighter but strip out way faster than the steel ones do. I still keep a few of the old heavy duty plastic ones around for loose sand, they actually bite in better than metal sometimes.
