Shoutout to that $15 hammock I swore would rip on first use

I picked up a super cheap hammock from a gas station outside of Boise last summer, honestly expecting it to fall apart before sundown. My buddy laughed and said it would last longer than my fancy one from REI (which cost me $80). Six months later, after hauling it through three different campsites and a surprise thunderstorm near the Snake River, it's still holding strong without a single fray. What finally convinced me was waking up dry and comfy after that rain, while his expensive setup leaked. Has anyone else found a random piece of gear that just refuses to quit?

Oh man, this hits home. I grabbed a random nylon hammock from a truck stop in Wyoming for like twelve bucks, figured it was a joke. Dragged it all over the Wind River Range, through rain and dew, even had a friend who weighs two-fifty take a nap in it. Thing is still going strong two years later, no tears or anything. Meanwhile my expensive hiking chair broke the second time I took it out. Sometimes the cheap junk just knows how to hang in there, no pun intended.

Wow, that's wild about the truck stop hammock! I actually read something a while back about how a lot of those cheap outdoor brands are just rebranded factory surplus from the same place the fancy ones get made. So sometimes you're basically getting the same thing for a fraction of the price. It's like the universe just handing you a free pass on gear sometimes.
